Action Required re Payments to HMRC
From December 16th 2011, HMRC have been able to accept payments using the ‘Faster Payments’ service. However, some sort codes and account numbers will not accept these payments and where customers have payments addressed to these sort codes and account numbers, the payment instruction must be amended.
If the details are not amended, the payment will be sent back to us and you may fail to make your payment by the date that it is due. You will see this within online banking as ‘unpaid’.
Whilst we have been able to amend many of these payments on behalf of our clients, some payment instructions still need to be updated by the account holder.
What you need to do:
Please check the details used to make your payments to HMRC
You can do this within the Payments and Transfers area of internet banking; by simply selecting your existing HMRC payment and amend the payment details.
To check the account number and sort code that you should be making your HMRC payments to, please visit their A-Z bank account details list at:
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/bankaccounts/
Two sort codes that we have identified as failing are 08-32-11 and 08-32-12; if you have these numbers set up within your payment details you will need to change both the sort code and account number to one detailed within their list.
As always, please take care to enter the correct details into Internet Banking in order to ensure the speed and safety of your payment.
